𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆:
The Club of Rome’s 1973 Regionalized and Adaptive Model of the Global World System divided the planet into ten macro-regions. Greenland was grouped into Region 1: North America. This early framing positioned Greenland as a hemispheric asset rather than a European appendage, a conceptual shift now echoed in current corporate and state interest.
𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁:
- 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲: Greenland’s reserves of hydrocarbons, rare earths, and critical minerals remain strategically unmatched.
- 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗩𝘂𝗹𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: Small population, governance dependence, and contested sovereignty create volatility.
- 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: Growing competition between U.S., EU, and Asian entities means early entrants can lock disproportionate value if reputational exposure is managed.
𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 (𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲-𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗲𝗱):
- 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴: Use indirect vehicles (Nordic, Canadian, or neutral third-country subsidiaries) to establish presence while minimizing political exposure.
- 𝗡𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴: Frame engagement in Greenland as sustainability, resilience, and local empowerment rather than extraction.
